Brian Shaffer Case Overview

Brian Shaffer was a 27-year-old Ohio State University medical student who disappeared in the early morning hours of April 1, 2006, after a night out with friends in Columbus, Ohio. The group had been celebrating the start of spring break at the Ugly Tuna Saloona, a bar located in the South Campus Gateway complex.

Surveillance cameras captured Brian entering the bar shortly before closing time. However, despite multiple cameras monitoring the escalator and main entrance, investigators were never able to confirm him leaving the building. When his friends returned outside to leave for the night, Brian was nowhere to be found.

In the years since his disappearance, investigators have explored numerous possibilities, including the chance that Brian may have exited through a service or construction area that was not covered by surveillance cameras. His cellphone later rang briefly for several months after he vanished but was never traced to a definitive location.

Despite extensive searches, interviews, and national media attention, no confirmed trace of Brian has ever been found. His case remains one of Ohio’s most well-known unsolved missing person mysteries.
