The CaseDive is a collaborative research community dedicated to preserving case information, expanding case files, and encouraging thoughtful discussion. Members contribute in many ways, including research, timelines, documents, articles, media resources, and collaborative conversations.

These guidelines help maintain a respectful, organized, and productive environment for everyone participating.

By using The CaseDive, you agree to follow these guidelines:

1. Be Respectful

Many discussions involve sensitive subjects, including crimes, missing persons, victims, families, and ongoing investigations.

Members are expected to treat one another respectfully and avoid:

  • harassment

  • threats

  • personal attacks

  • bullying

  • hostile or abusive behavior

Disagreements are a normal part of research and discussion, but they should always remain civil and constructive.

2. Respect Victims, Families, and Communities

The cases featured on The CaseDive involve real people and real lives.

Please avoid:

  • mocking victims, families, or loved ones

  • encouraging harassment toward anyone connected to a case

  • posting intentionally insensitive or inflammatory content

Thoughtful discussion is encouraged, but empathy should always remain part of the conversation.

3. Protect Personal Privacy

Do not post private or identifying information about individuals, including:

  • home addresses

  • phone numbers

  • private email addresses

  • workplace information

  • personal social media accounts that are not already publicly associated with the case

Respect the privacy of private individuals, especially those not directly involved in public reporting.

4. Do Not Harass or Interfere

The CaseDive exists to preserve and organize research, not to influence investigations or target individuals.

Members should not:

  • contact witnesses or family members on behalf of the community

  • organize harassment campaigns

  • encourage others to contact private individuals

  • interfere with ongoing investigations

5. Contribute Thoughtfully

The CaseDive grows through collaboration.

Members are encouraged to:

  • contribute research

  • submit documents and sources

  • expand timelines

  • help organize case information

  • ask questions

  • discuss media coverage

  • respectfully explore theories

  • suggest corrections when new information becomes available

Whenever possible, include sources for factual claims so other members can review and verify information.

6. Separate Facts from Theory

Many cases involve unanswered questions.

Please clearly distinguish between:

  • confirmed information

  • informed opinion

  • personal theory

  • speculation

Presenting speculation as established fact makes collaborative research more difficult and may be moderated when necessary.

7. No Spam or Excessive Self-Promotion

Posts should contribute to research, discussion, or community collaboration.

Unrelated advertising, excessive self-promotion, repetitive posting, or spam may be removed.

Creators who participate in good faith are always welcome when contributing meaningfully to discussions.

8. Follow Applicable Laws

Members are responsible for ensuring that their activity complies with applicable laws.

Illegal content or unlawful behavior is prohibited.

Please respect copyrights when sharing documents, images, articles, or other materials.

9. Moderation

Administrators and moderators may take action when necessary to protect the community and maintain a productive research environment.

Actions may include:

  • removing content

  • editing obvious formatting issues

  • locking discussions

  • issuing warnings

  • suspending accounts

  • permanently banning accounts when appropriate

Moderation decisions are intended to protect both the community and the integrity of the archive.

10. Help Improve the Archive

The CaseDive is designed to grow alongside its community.

Members are encouraged to:

  • suggest new cases

  • recommend missing persons for the index

  • submit research

  • report timeline corrections

  • recommend new features

  • provide constructive feedback

The strongest archives are built collaboratively.

11. Use Good Judgment

If you're unsure whether something belongs on The CaseDive, ask yourself:

  • Is it respectful?

  • Is it helpful?

  • Does it contribute to understanding the case?

  • Would I be comfortable citing this in a collaborative archive?

When in doubt, choose thoughtful participation.

Responsible Discussion of Active Cases

Some discussions involve active investigations or recently developing events.

Because information may continue to change, members should remember:

  • investigations evolve

  • early reports may later be corrected

  • publicly circulating information is not always verified

  • theories should be clearly identified as opinion

  • unconfirmed claims should not be presented as established fact

Members should also avoid interfering with investigations or encouraging others to do so.

The goal of The CaseDive is to preserve, organize, and discuss available information responsibly, not to influence real-world investigations.

The CaseDive provides tools for members to contribute research, discussions, timelines, documents, and other collaborative content.

Opinions, theories, and conclusions expressed by individual members belong solely to their respective authors and do not necessarily represent the views of The CaseDive or its administrators.
